Paratypes: MRAC 154701-02 (2); CAS-SU 63460-61 (1, 1), 63462 (orig. 20, now 14 + 2 c&s); USNM 202502 [ex CAS-SU 63462] (1). Type catalog: Vari & Howe 1991:29 [ref. 19022]. •Valid as Lepidarchus adonis Roberts 1966 -- (Paugy 1984:173 [ref. 6183], Paugy in Lévêque et al. 1990:234 [ref. 21589], Paugy et al. 1990:337 [ref. 26477], Poll & Gosse 1995:139 [ref. 24781], Dankwa et al. 1999:20 [ref. 28023]). Current status: Valid as Lepidarchus adonis Roberts 1966. Alestidae. Distribution: West Africa. Habitat: freshwater.

One of these three specimens is the holotype.
barnardi, Petersius Herre [A. W. C. T.] 1936:100 [Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington v. 49; ref. 2112] Roadside ditches about 12 kilometers from Beira, Mozambique. Holotype: CAS-SU 31521 (mixed among paratypes). Paratypes: FMNH 47198 [ex SU] (8), MRAC [ex SU] (4), SAM 22275 [now at AMG] (3, in 2 bottles), CAS-SU 31521 (74, 3 in vial with possible holotype). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:26 [ref. 12291], Ibarra & Stewart 1987:64 [ref. 12367]. •Valid as Hemigrammopetersius barnardi (Herre 1936) -- (Paugy 1984:168 [ref. 6183], Skelton 1993:205 [ref. 24071], Skelton 2001:205 [ref. 27406], Snoeks 2004:21 [ref. 28111]). •Valid as Rhabdalestes barnardi (Herre 1936). Current status: Valid as Rhabdalestes barnardi (Herre 1936). Alestidae. Distribution: Southeastern Africa. Habitat: freshwater.
